Rosso IGT Toscano

Fermentation is carried out on the skins for about 10-15 days at a controlled temperature (27-28°C). This phase is followed by the malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, specifically designed for the delicate extraction of tannin and color. After this process the wine is poured into small french oak barrels. Finally the wine is bottled and stored so that the wine may continue to age.

Tasting notes

Deep, ruby red, the wine gives a pleasant and delicate aroma of red berry fruits. The bouquet is characterized by spicy aromas and light vanilla. The taste is soft and elegant.

Our wines

The wines are the result of competent and accurate farming, respecting biodiversity and natural resources. The goal is to create products that harmoniously reflect the land and the plant varieties of which the vineyard is an integral part. The wines are made exclusively with the grapes we produce. The 18 hectares are divided between Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are all located near the winery from 250 to 450 meters above sea level.

Shared values

Podere Montale was founded in July 2014, but finds its true beginning in the first harvest in 2015. The story has to be written. During these first years we have taken a path aimed at geographical and social integration. The plan is to become a benchmark for the whole community of Seggiano and Montecucco production area.
We are in an authentic and undiscovered territory, magnetic and in some ways mysterious.
Our goal is to enhance the place where we live through a logic of growth and mutual improvement.

The territory

Our products come to life where the Val d'Orcia leaves the pass at the slopes of an old volcano, the Monte Amiata. It dictates the times of our land. The earliest evidence of the territory goes back to a primitive painting in the so-called "cave of the archer" datable between 5000 and 3000 b.c. However, the area underwent its development with the settlement of the Etruscans. Mount Amiata, visible from all the Etruscan territory, represented the place of worship par excellence. In fact, its name seems to come from Tiniatus, the mountain of Tinia, the most important Etruscan divinity.
The territory is perfect to produce olive oil and wine being in a place that benefits the ventilation coming from the sea and at the same time the presence of a mountain of about 1800 meters behind it. During the summers the long and sunny days are mitigated by a strong nocturnal thermal excursion.
This climatic conditions, the stony subsoil and the presence of ancient lava compounds give our wines a particular freshness.

Our point of view

The history of Podere Montale comes to life in 2014 with Silvio Mendini. Since the beginning his will and ambition gave the farm its own identity. It doesn't have to identify itself in a single person, but in the people who allow this reality to grow and create products of excellence.
In a world where certifications are a "must have" we think that it is necessary to recover two fundamental values in the relationship with agriculture: trust and transparency.
The agronomic approach is competent and accurate, but we believe it is not enough. We are committed to giving back to nature what it gives us with every harvest.
To do this we apply the principles of conservation agriculture to keep the vineyard balanced with the important ecosystem of more than 50 hectares of surrounding woods.
The reason is to protect the biodiversity treasure typical of the natural equilibrium. This setting allows us to have agronomic practices with minimal impact.

The beating heart of our passion

The winery is located in the center of the estate, surrounded by vineyards. The structure fully reflects the production philosophy of transparency and genuineness. The passage between the vinification area and the aging cellar is obligatory through the tasting room: guests and wine-makers interact to create a sincere product of excellence.

A unique experience

The wine is alive. Precisely for this reason its tasting is a real experience. Behind a bottle there is a story and we want to tell it to you.
The visit consists of an explanation of the different production phases (tour of the vineyard, vinification area and aging cellar) and culminates with the tasting of our wines accompanied by some local products.
The price is 10 euros per person.
